Statement of Communication by the Mayor – Launch of the 2012 – 2016 IDP process
As we stand at the beginning of a new era and term of council we consequently have the following new challenges
- Establishing a new Integrated Development Plan (IDP), after concluding the previous, reasonably successful IDP, the challenge is to again have a new IDP which is a realistic, budgeted for and working document.
- Matters that must be part and parcel of the new document and has to be worked on are the following:
a) Working towards a clean audit report against the background of the new GRAP financial system
b) The inclusion of the previous Demarcated Area (DMA) and the financial implications thereof
c) The availability of clean water to Steytlerville, with specific reference to the Erasmuskloof project
d) Re-organising personnel structures in order to ensure effective service delivery
- The IDP should improve the lives of people and in the new term of office, this should be a high priority for council and administration
- The news IDP should also lead us to a new approach towards community participation. It is essential that we reach as many of the community members as possible. Therefore we should look at and implement community based planning as a tool. It should also be noted that representatives of an organisation must report back to the organisation they represent
The 05th of October 2011 marked the launch of the 2012 – 2016 Integrated Development Plan, which will be reviewed every year until 2016. I hope that the people involved will use the opportunity to contribute positively for the sake of better living in all households.
