Community Development

The Baviaans Municipality is committed to uplifting the living standards of it's residents by creating job opportunities and by promoting development projects within the Baviaans Region.

Entrepreneurial Skills

In addition to simply creating jobs, it is essential that opportunities are created for people to start their own businesses and to become employers in their own right. 

This is one of the focus areas and various tourism operators have already undertaken to promote local art work, traditional cuisine etc. among their visitors. 

One worker in the Baviaanskloof has established an exceptional garden and his wife now provides visitors with fresh "roosterkoek" and coffee when they stop to admire the garden.

Sibanje House

The Council has also established Sibanje House in Willowmore. This community project aims at training previously disadvantaged persons in crafts, needlework etc.

It is also envisaged that traditional meals will be sold to visitors.

Volunteers who can contribute with knowledge and skills are invited to contact the Municipality to discuss ways of improving this facility. 
 

Steytlerville Gumboot Dancers

A group of ten enterprising young men of Steytlerville has formed a troupe of Gumboot Dancers.  They are available to perform at venues both within and beyond the municipal area and also for the entertainment of guests at the sites of tourism providers in the area to enhance the visitors' experience.

Steytlerville Heroes Monument

A monument which commemorates those inhabitants of Steytlerville who perished in The Struggle.
